Red Mountain AVA Friday July 16, 2021

Departure from Walla Walla at 9:15 a.m.

Scenic Drive along the Snake, Walla Walla, Yakima and Columbia River Confluences. Riparian habitat in the mid-Columbia Basin is home to a wide variety of birds, flowers and supports many crops. Including potatoes, wheat, peas (fresh and seed), alfalfa and of course, the state fruit — the Washington Apple!

Goals for the day:

  • Taste with winemaker-owners

  • Learn about the Red Mountain AVA soils and vineyards

  • Drink Big and Bold reds

  • Enjoy the best views

10:30 a.m. Kiona Vineyards and Winery ($15 pp)

The very first vineyards were planted just outside the deck at the tasting room. Gnarled vines, thick with vintages, cover the landscape. Kiona has evolved into a modern winery, offering many varietals at all prices points.

1:15 p.m. Fidelitas ($15 pp)

The best patio on the Mountain is at Fidelitas Estate Vineyard. It’s panoramic view, often including Mt. Adams, is the perfect place to sip. Premium Bordeaux wines, warm and knowledgeable service.

(If you want to sneak in one quick flight, I am recommending. . . Frichette — You’ll meet the owner and enjoy bold reds from single vineyards on Red Mountain.

3:00 p.m. - UpChurch ($20 pp)
Chris Upchurch is not only a Washington wine legend, he is a big part of the tasting experience at their Estate Vineyard and home. It’s humbling to get to hear from the winemaker and see his passion and vision for Red Mountain viticulture. Fantastic views!

4:15 p.m. - Col Solare ($25 pp - waived with $100 purchase)

Col Solare is one of the Red Mountain classics. They are a collaboration between two wine making titans—one from Washington and one from Italy. From the tower at Col Solare, take one last look at the beautiful Red Mountain vineyards. You are at the top, looking down! Enjoy either the Flight of 3 wines for $25 or Grappa for $5 (or both).
